The Oregon Department of Transportation has implemented a travel time reporting system that utilizes wireless technology to estimate travel times along a five mile corridor of OR-99W in Tigard, Oregon. The system calculates the travel time by measuring the time for a vehicle equipped with a Bluetooth device to travel between two consecutive data recorders. By repeating this process for the plethora of vehicles equipped with Bluetooth devices the travel time can be estimated for the measured segment. As part of a multiphase project to develop and implement this system, this project involves the collection of actual travel times for the corridor utilizing GPS tracking systems and comparing those experienced times with the calculated time from the reporting system.
